Direct-fire-roasted kinako blended with fragrant black sesame and mellow almond powder. Made by Kouta Shouten with soybeans grown in Hokkaido, Japan. 150 g (5.3 oz).

The bag reads: soy isoflavones × vitamin E × sesamin, and "the natural flavor of the ingredients, as an everyday habit."

What is kinako?

Kinako is soybeans that have been roasted and then ground into a powder. Like matcha, it is a common ingredient in Japanese sweets. Soybeans are so rich in high-quality plant protein that they are called "meat of the field" in Japan. Soybeans also contain oligosaccharides, isoflavones, vitamins, dietary fiber, lecithin, and minerals.

Direct-fire roasting

Kouta Shouten roasts the soybeans over an open flame before grinding them. This creates a flavor and aroma that other roasting methods can't replicate.

How to enjoy it

  • Sprinkle it on yogurt, ice cream, toast, or your everyday meals
  • Stir it into milk to make a kinako drink
  • Pair it with chocolate
  • Use it in Japanese sweets: kinako mochi, dango (sweet dumplings), and kinako parfaits
  • Bake it into cookies and other baked sweets, or top panna cotta and desserts with it

Kinako yogurt

  1. Mix kinako into yogurt.
  2. Add your favorite fruit, and it's ready to eat.

Kouta Shouten roasts domestic Japanese soybeans slowly over an open flame for a rich flavor, then pairs the kinako with ingredients that go well with it, such as almonds and black sesame.

Black sesame, almond, and kinako soup

  1. Heat 500 ml of store-bought corn soup over low heat.
  2. Add 4 tablespoons of black sesame and almond kinako.
  3. Stir well until smooth with no lumps, and it's ready.

Black sesame and almond dressing

  1. Take 3 tablespoons of your favorite dressing.
  2. Mix in 1 tablespoon of black sesame and almond kinako.
